EXERCISE TIP: The front squat is a good squat variation to add to your training repertoire. The difference in bar placement increase the loading on the core and thoracic stabilisers and focuses more on developing quadriceps strength. For some of our athletes, the limiting factor for a front squat is the strain endured by their wrist. This can be attributed to a whole variety of reasons including poor wrist mobility, tight forearm flexors, tight latissimus dorsi or even poor thoracic strength. A simple solution to these is to use wrist wraps as supportive handles on the bar. This allows for less strain on the wrists whilst keeping the stability of bar placement. Here’s one of our athletes, Ed, an NFL safety linebacker who plays for the University of Texas, performing a front squat using wraps.
