Each July 4th, we in America celebrate our Independence that was won in 1776, and we thank God for the opportunity to live in the greatest nation on earth. We believe in God and His goodness and providence, the freedom and dignity of each human being, a government that is “of the people, for the people, and by the people,” a society that is orderly and organized and not chaotic, a land where each person has the opportunity to achieve great things and is encouraged to do his or her best, where there are park benches, ballgames, and laughter, where one can board a train or bus and not be afraid that it will be stopped by soldiers who arrest persons for their beliefs, where there is still clean air to breathe, where we can still enjoy the snow, rain, and crops, fish in the streams and lakes, sit on the porch with our neighbor, attend the church of our choice, where there is security for older persons, help for crippled children, an opportunity for each person to get a good education, the freedom to read a book of our choice, be who we are, decide what we believe, where we shop, eat, play, and travel wherever and whenever we so desire. Yes, we thank God for America! (From my sermon, God Has Blessed Us)
