Early Voting started today: Id like to share my thoughts: I try to have an open mind about the candidates running for BOE. The first thing I look at is where they get there money and to whom they own their allegiances -- who they will really represent. We know that Dennis Rape after at least two previous failed campaigns has joined with the eastern Union County GOOD OLD BOYS and has professed nothing but support for the Commissioners position. NO VOTE for him. LESLIE BOYD tried to hide her Liberal DEMOCRAT credentials or at least obscure them. Difficult to do when the Union County Democrat Party is waving her flag. I have a real trust problem with Leslie. She recently made claims of support from people who diametrically oppose her liberal views. More than anything she is employed as a federal bureaucrat and as such she will likely fit like a glove with the sublime school bureaucracy at UCPS We need independent thought. I dont have any faith the Leslie will NOT be able to represent Union County as a whole, and will likely gravitate to social issues that are more national in nature. I suppose the last straw for me on Leslie Lomax Boyd was the recent endorsement by Protect Union County Schools page, who for years has claimed non-bias and neutrality, a public service, just couldnt resist endorsing a fellow DEMOCRAT and neighbor. I am voting for Sean Maher. He is the real deal. I have known Sean for 7 years, He is a guy that is willing to get his hands dirty, do the work the needs to be done. He has excellent leadership qualities, but more than that he is sincere does wear his ego like billboard. We want some-one who will be an ADVOCATE for the parents. Sean is the man for that. I am supporting Marce Savage, too. Marces heart is in the right place, she needs to do a better job of reaching out for help when dealing with an antagonistic and arrogant board members. While I would have perferred to hear a more forceful and articulate appraisals of the YERCHECK redistricting plan now in place, not everyone is has those tools. Not voting for Marce, will add another player to YERCHECKS bench. Finally Mr. Yercheck. Since his election in 2012, I had many conversations about concerns and issues surrounding redistricting. HE LIED TO ME TIME AND TIME AGAIN. I began asked about plans underway April 2013. I met him for coffee -- NOTHING BUT LIES. I have been blogging about the school board since 2004, there have been terrible, unethical school board members in the past, there have been weak kneed members, but a Mr. Yercheck is in a class of his own. Which make my choice for District 1 so much easier. Gary Sides has put in a terrific effort, going door to door meeting people. He has board level experience, a long involvement with the Union County Education foundation and an appreciation for what parents have to contend with dealing with UCPS. The Current BOE is not transparent or serving the real needs of Union County. They have abused and destroyed the good will built up over the last 10 years. If your childs education is important to you then vote for an ADVOCATE not a bureaucrat or a another yes-man.
