Ebola and Sin Think about the first time you heard of the Ebola - TopicsExpress

Ebola and Sin Think about the first time you heard of the Ebola outbreak in Africa. Then, hearing the news of health care workers being flown back to the United States for treatment and others becoming infected in this country, there was a sobering awareness that it was no longer someone else’s problem, but ours as well. After the initial shock and fear, some became more vigilant in fighting the disease while it became a joke and a byword with others. In fact, health care worker costumes are expected to be in high demand for Halloween this year. But Ebola is no joke; it’s deadly. This is very similar to the responses people give to the disease of sin. As with many great revivals in history when they heard the Good News, “they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, ‘Brothers, what shall we do?’” (Acts 2:37) When we see sin for what it really is, we understand the serious nature and consequences of it in our lives and the lives of others and join in with the Gospel “Rapid Response Team” to bring the cure to the people. We echo the words of Peter in his reply, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” (Acts 2:38-39) Believe, repent, and obey. That is the cure. If we see sin as the deadly disease that it truly is, we can’t help but rush to the scene with the antidote, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are holding the cure. Let us be generous in distributing it. Asst. Pastor Darbyshire
