Effective system of transliteration Due to some hystorical reasons Abkhaz language needs to be trated with care. Its enough to narrow the language space and the demand for a scrypt for a few decades and the language as a mode of communication might disappear. Current situation is covered in detail in the article Abkhaz writing during the WEB epoch and it causes a big consern. Thats why a group of enthusiasts headed by Garry Kanjaria has developed a system of transliteration for Abkhaz language, based on 26 letters of Latin alphabet. Several years of an academic research preseeded the appearance of this system. Existing systems of Russian alphabet transliteration were analysed, as well as Abkhaz language transliteration systems based on Turkish alphabet, offered by scolars and public persons: O. Beiguaa (Turkey), G. Hewitt (Great Britain), S. Chirikba, B. Jonua - all of them used Turkish Latin alphabet as a base. Turkih alphabet consist of 29 latin letters. 23 letters are used without any change. 5 latin letters are modified with diacritic marks: c, g, o, s, u. Letter i has is doubled with I – I(ı). Using the modified letters btings in the familiar problem of localisation - users computer has to be equipped with Turkish keyboard and cell phone should have Turkish language in the software. Its important to mention that the transliteration system based on English alphabet is free from many disadvantages of the specific national sighns and is based on an absolute international standard. No additional localisations needed. Wed like to stress attention on an important aspect - graphic representation of the letters - script. Every year about 1 000 new scripts appear in the world, not more then 100 pass the time test and stay in active use. In general Western world uses about 6 000 scripts. There are 300 - 400 cyrillic scripts. Theres a big lack of scripts in Russia. Campare these numbers with Abkhazian situation: only two imperfect scripts for documents, newspapers, advertisement an television. Our transliteration system opens an access to the script treasuries of the whole world for typographers and designers of Abkhazia.
