Egerton seeks county partnership to upgrade hospital Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has hosted an Egerton University team led by vice-chancellor James Tuitoek to discuss development and partnership matters. Top on the agenda on the Thursday meeting was the request by the university to transform the Rift Valley Provincial Hospital into a teaching and referral facility. The vice chancellor said: The suggestion is in line with our medicine programme which saw the first nine students graduate in December last year. The university will invest in equipment, expertise and resources. Governor Kinuthia welcomed the proposal and instructed his ministry of health to take up the matter and work alongside the university. Security matters around the university’s Nakuru town campus were also discussed with proposals to install streetlights after several robbery incidences were reported in the area. The meeting also discussed documentation of the land where Kenyatta campus is located. The university has occupied that land for the last 10 years but the institution has not officially received ownership documents. The governor promised to address the issues raised. Other proposed partnerships were the adoption and rehabilitation of the roundabout near Gate House in Nakuru town and provision of a dedicated parking area for students taking classes in the Nakuru town campus. The university also promised to utilise its expertise to come up with a solid waste management plan for the county. Written by citizen reporter kel wesh.
