Eight months, tons of training, tons of love and a day we have - TopicsExpress

Eight months, tons of training, tons of love and a day we have been working toward. Today, the first of our Autism dogs transferred to her permanent home. In October of last year Vikki Dumdei agreed to act as foster mom for Callie, then a six week old Golden Retriever mix puppy, with the intent of training her to ultimately be a companion for a child with Autism. Lori Cooper was retained by Patriots to do the training with the foster mom and the dog and ultimately the training with the parents and the child that Callie would live with. Callie has gone through extensive socialization, basic training and exposure to various circumstances to get her ready for this day and she has done awesome. In addition to training Callie, Trevor and his parents received training to achieve the best success possible for Trevor. Today was the day everyone has worked hard to get to. Although bitter sweet for Vikki as the foster mom, the transition to Trevor brought tears to everyones heart. There werent very many dry eyes in the house as we all said goodbye to Callie. There is no doubt this will be an awesome thing for Trevor and no doubt by anyone that Callie will get the attention and love she deserves not only as a dog but as a valuable member of the family. A huge thank you to Vikki Dumdei for putting in the eight months it took and letting go today with grace and a smile although we know your heart was aching already.
