Elvan Glendall Glen Bennett, 91, of Benton passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2014 in Benton. He was born in Jefferson County, IL on August 23, 1923 the son of William & Pearl (Young) Bennett. He married Delores (Austin) in September of 1946, and she survives. Mr. Bennett was a World War II U. S. Army Veteran, he was a recipient of 3 Bronze Stars awarded for Valor, along with many other Military honors. He served in the South Pacific and drove the first truck off the carrier with General MacArthur when he returned to the Phillipines. Mr. Bennett was a career Farmer in both Ewing & Benton as well as working for the Illinois Department of Transportation. He was the oldest living member of the East Benton Baptist Church. Mr. Bennett is survived by his: Wife: Delores Bennett of Benton Daughter: Glenda Bennett Woods of Marion Son: James Edward Bennett & wife Connie of Maumelle, AR 2 Granddaughters: Meredith Woods Stacey Bennett Several Nieces & Nephews and his beloved canine companion Jackie Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his Parents, by a Sister-Ielene Rea & by 2 Brothers-Ivan & Lloyd. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, September 13th at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton with Dr. Bob Dickerson officiating. Burial with Military Rites conducted by the Benton American Legion & VFW Posts and the National Guard Honor Squad will be in the Shiloh Cemetery in Whittington. Visitation will be after 11:00 A.M. on Saturday at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton.
