Email to Middleton School district...I thought you guys should know whats happening in your school just this week! So, as this week alone goes, we received many teacher “policy” letters that mandated perceived to be dictatorial powers like signatures at the expense of grade deductions for the students that you stated were partially taken care of by the transfer of the teacher to a different school but that was only part of the problem in that No teacher has authority to trump the parent in that regard and its happening more frequently not less and I see it to be a big problem. I am still waiting for the IDAPA rules and statutes on where this authority comes from. I also had several other issues I wanted to make you aware of. My son and his advisory teacher apparently got into a friendly debate on whether it was lawful to do search on personal property without probable cause to where the teacher stated all that was necessary was to be told on by another student. This defies reason for the simple fact that any or all students could make their point by telling on each other in one day to force the school into chaos for frivolous complaints. Another issue is the idea that in business class, Zach’s teacher gets treated poorly by telling him how irresponsible he is in front of the class for failing to bring drinks into a class, apparently at the expense of the parent or child? I see several problems with this. One, he is not irresponsible by any stretch. Two, what if a child couldn’t afford to bring anything it at his expense? And third, why should his punishment to write a one page letter on why he couldn’t afford it or why he believes it is out of the school authority to force him to spend money he doesn’t have? Fourth, how can one write a full one page letter about how he felt it was beyond the power of the school or a one page letter on the fact that he or his family are broke? Would the teacher expect him to be public about private matters? Also in Business class, it is apparent to me that the school in many of its clever ways to generate revenue, because it seems like it is never enough, has decided to use business class to sell oversized gold card cards under duress to the point that if a student doesn’t sell it, they need to write a one page letter on why they didn’t sell it? You know how much I care for you and appreciate your willingness to communicate with me but these issues, if I understand them correctly; they are absolutely over the top! Our kids are being controlled more and more every year and every year sanctions on them become more and more harsh and quite honestly, ridiculous as they even relate to consequences to the parents? I think it is necessary to have a little communication with whomever to really ask questions like, what is reasonable in a teaching environment and what limitations are there placed on a school district to preserve the rights of the parents and the children from a district that has no believe that limitations on them should exist. So far we have dealt with the following issues this week, just to name a few….You know I do not approve of your mandated laptop program, so I will bring my own. I do not approve of data tracking tactics, nor the harassment of the teachers coercing the child to get one against the parent (which also happened this week), so I will get my own wifi access card. I do not approve of teachers forcing children to use their signature against their will as they have no authority and their signature is not legally binding. I do not support the coercive use of parental signatures at the point of grade reductions for our kids. I do not support the coercive tactics to force my kid to spend his own money to bring drinks to a class or be punished by a one page essay if he didn’t. I do not support any efforts under the guise of any class to use our children as money generators for the school selling fundraising packets for business class or suffer the consequences of writing a one page letter despite the fact that the reason may not even be possible to stretch to an entire page. In addition as we have mentioned before, I do not approve of paid parking passes, the prohibition of food and drink to sports event, to pay to go into sports games where revenue its generated by the simple fact that our kids play, the school parking lot gates shut and LOCKED during business hours to keep our kids from leaving, the school itself in lockdown during school hours to keep them in and the inability to go to their cars at break or even the closed campus which is beyond the authority of the school! Are you not aware of the laws relating to the fact that businesses must remain unlocked during business hours? Ask yourself one question putting your job aside and looking at this from someone on the outside. Is what I have described above more describe a school or a prison and don’t our kids have rights and protections afforded to them by the same constitutions that applies to the parents? I’m guessing probably not since out of all that is taught, that somehow never makes it into the school room. So, as parents that have funded the existence of this establishment by force, I would like to ask how much do the districts really care about their parents and their children and how well prepared will our kids be for the future, as you claim to preparing them for, when every move, thought or behavior is controlled by this establishment to the point of sanction? If schools focus all of their efforts on “education” and nothing about preserving their freedom when they are finally on their own, how successful will they be when we are no better than any other socialist/Communist state where every move, thought or behavior of every parent and child is controlled the same way it was in school? I guess the question is, what is the school really building for our children? There are solutions to these problems; we just need to exercise them. And just because some parents are willing to give up their freedom for security, it doesn’t mean that the minority must be subject to such ignorance as the constitution was written to protect the minority from the majority. We need to chat, Respectfully, Tom Munds
