Emergency Seymour Update This morning started as most mornings do. I let the dogs out for their morning bathroom break while I was preparing breakfast. I carried Seymour down to the garden. While I was getting things ready, I heard Seymour out on the front deck, an indication that he had come up from the garden. I let him in and continued breakfast preparations. In an instant Seymour went completely mad. He raced back and forth through the house, howling like he was in pain. and was very unsteady on his legs. I called the vet and arranged for an emergency visit and took Seymour in right away. The doctor said that the nature of his symptoms would require a diagnosis by exclusion. In other words he planned to rule out some possibilities thus narrowing the possibilities. He did x-rays and confirmed that the heart and lungs were fine and also confirmed that there was no spinal damage. Essentially, because of his previous brain damage, the doctor concluded that the problem is likely a tumour of brain lesion that is growing and that the diagnosis is related to central nervous system issues. There is no way to be certain unless he has a CT Scan or MRi and Newfoundland does not have that capability. Right now, I have him back home. He has settled down considerably. He ate his breakfast when we got home and is resting comfortably on his pet bed. The doctor gave me some narcotics in case he seems to be in pain. He said that for now the only thing that could be done is to monitor him and treat his symptoms.
