Enslow for the 47th District P.O. Box 172 Versailles, CT 06383 PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE What choice is No Choice? News of the recommendations from Gov. Malloys Common Core Task Force is rapidly circulating in both print and social media this morning. It comes as no surprised that the Task Force has recommended various steps to improve the dismal rollout of the Common Core Standards because they were not given any other choice. Common Core Standards were devised by ultra rich Washington insiders and passed on to both Federal and State governments as the best new thing for education. Gov. Malloy, in his undying efforts to appease the Washington elite, has forced the Standards upon the state without allowing it to be properly vetted and approved by the members of the State Legislatures. Furthermore, it has left local Boards of Education, teachers and parents voiceless on the entire process. In the initial stages of the Task Force, it was directed by Gov. Malloy not to delay or suspend implementation of these new standards and must look instead at embracing the process and force it down the throats of towns regardless of public sentiment. Now, Gov. Malloy has taken the stance that its full speed ahead and he will just throw another $15 million (proceeded by an earlier $24 million money bomb) into the sinkhole Common Core truly is. Having two small children in 1st Grade, I have personally seen the damage that Common Core is doing to our children. Long nights of tear filled homework sessions greeted my kids each day as they, and I, struggle to understand some of the worksheets and tests that were sent home. Additionally, the education they were receiving, in my opinion, was lowering the bar of expectation and ultimately leaving them vastly unprepared for the changes of REAL life and further educational success. Within the State, Common Core has been in the process of implementation for over 4 years now. It obviously isnt working! Common Core implementation is extremely expensive to both state coffers and local communities, and most importantly, parents/communities no longer have a say in how/what their children are taught. We must stand together against Common Core until it has been properly researched, vetted, and VOTED ON before we throw our hard earned tax dollars away. Paid for by Enslow for the 47th District, William Jenkins, Treasurer. Approved by Noah Enslow.
