Even tho it is spring break, homework must still be completed. Having said that, I just watched an enlightening video for class on Common Core State Standards for Public Schools. I feel some type of way about this because basically you have a set of national guidelines that each state must adhere to which tells me that tho I live in NC home of the 2nd/3rd largest military base in the country, my students should be learning on the same level and know the same information as students in Iowa where agriculture and farming is a vital part of their upbringing (which Texas opted out of Common Core Standards, kudos to them for standing up for what they believe in). Also, decades of research show that the single most important element in a childs education is parental involvement. So because the parents of my students are overseas serving the country, does this mean that my students education will not be as meaningful as those students in Iowa that may live on the farm with their parents and interact with them daily???
