Evening Army... I was thinking back tonight to where I was a week ago and feeling truly blessed to be a part of RIDE to GIVE. It is a feeling I can not describe, knowing that what we do has helped change the lives of the over 30 cause families we have featured in the past year. Next Sunday a group of 7 women and 1 man will know that feeling first hand as they race in IRONMAN Lake Placid for Elizas Story. When Elizas father thought about what he could do for her after they received her diagnosis, he felt helpless. What do you do to help your beautiful 4 year old daughter who has been told that within the next year or two she will suffer irreversible brain damage affecting her ability to speak, walk and do the smallest of tasks ultimately ending in death before she reached her teens? And how would you feel knowing that there was a group of scientists and doctors very close to a cure that could stop this disease in its tracks and save your childs life but there was no funding for the final trials? In the year 2014 you search how to make a viral video on google and set about the task of telling your familys story. You then set the funding goal to raise the almost $2,000,000.00 that is needed to fund the clinical trials and end Sanfilippo Syndrome-Type A for good. Below is the video the family made with the help of videographer Von Wong. It has been seen almost 400,000 times and her story has been told all over the world. Our 8 person Ironman team is currently at $5,798, over 1/2 way to their goal of $10,000 to help end Sanfilippo Syndrome-Type A and save Elizas life.
