Every Year I post this.We lost our daughter Gayle almost three years ago from Strep A. she became a quad amputee and lived for 2 years after her surgery. Please take care of a sore throat. GAS specifically Streptococcus pyogenes is a form of bacteria responsible for most cases of streptococcal illness. Most infections are mild and may resolve with or without antibiotic treatment. However, some infections may be caused by virulent strains that cause severe illness. What symptoms can be present GAS infections usually begin as mild infections, involving the tonsils (Strep throat), sinuses (sinusitis) or skin (cellulites). Early mild symptoms may include fever, headache, nasal congestion, sore throat and cough. Later, more severe symptoms may develop to include confusion, lightheadedness, generalized weakness, pallor, chest pain, shortness of breath, abdominal pain, and decreased urin What damage can it cause? If untreated, GAS infection may lead to more severe local infection involving the skin (necrotizing fascitis) and lungs (pneumonia)/ GAS infection may even progress to widespread infection (toxic shock syndrome), multi-organ failure (circulatory shock, respiratory failure, kidney failure), and eventual How is it diagnosed? Cultures may be taken from the throat, lungs, blood and urine. Early recognition and treatment with appropriate antibiotics are critical.
