Every year when the blessed month of Rabi’ al-Awwal arrives, - TopicsExpress

Every year when the blessed month of Rabi’ al-Awwal arrives, social media goes into overdrive, with people debating the permissibility/non-permissibility of celebrating the Mawlid! The same remarks, proofs, arguments and counter-arguments are repeated over and over again each year. People act as though it is the first time this topic is being discussed in the history of Islam! This, indeed, is a very sad situation, and counterproductive to one’s spiritual progress. It is understandable to research an issue to try and ascertain the correct position, but once that is done, there is no need to keep spending hours debating and arguing with others. A brother said to me a few days ago, “Why don’t you write something regarding the Mawlid?” I replied, “I did that 10 years ago, and I’m done!” There will, of course, always be ‘some’ who may come across an issue for the first time, but most of our debates regarding this topic are with the same people and repeated over and over again. Instead of utilizing our precious time in endless debates – in which there are no apparent benefits, and does not convince anyone to change their stance – if we focused on ourselves, worshipped Allah, sent blessings on the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) and read a book on Seerah, it would have been much more productive and beneficial.
