Everyone is talking about this Hotel thing in downtown Summerville......why do we need a hotel downtown Summerville ??? Isnt traffic bad enough as it is ???? Whos lining their pockets with this idea ?? Keep the traffic as close to the interstate as possible...if its a hotel not an Inn..then keep it toward the interstate....I can understand Bed and Breakfast accommodations..using or fixing an old Summerville home into another southern traditional retreat...this still adds to the charm...but a large hotel downtown makes no sense...all it will really cause is more of a headache for local residents...and in the off season of traveling folks, when the hotel is not busy..our local businesses will again suffer because our residents have already stopped shopping as much as they did because no. 1.. the prices were jacked up for the tourist to start with...no. 2 the prices will again escalate for the lack of business.. not to mention the lack of parking and convenience they once had..... If the proposed hotel is going to be similar to the old Inns in Summerville..I.E. Pine Forest Inn...Carolina Inn...Squirrel Inn....etc... If it follows in those traditions and similarity and style I will shut my mouth...but it should still be in a location where the trees and flowers are not destroyed but enhanced...not Down Town....
