Everyone on this Facebook page is a forever hopelessly dedicated to the memory of the late Evel Knievel. We are all fans. We share an unbreakable bond between Evel, his heroics and the home cooked American ideals of our own childhood. We all dreamed to be him. To be fearless. To be admired. To walk confidently in the face of danger. No man, has ever been more patriotic, outspoken or pioneering than Robert Craig Knievel. In his own way he has left an indelible impression on us all. Yes, he self promoted. Yes, his ego was bigger than life. Yes, he capitalized on and took advantage of his wild popularity. There is simply no arguing that ego energizing behavior. He often did so in ways outside of basic American morals. Then again the same could probably be said for all of our founding fathers, random presidents and even for astronauts who first walked the moon. Moments of greatness peppered with imperfections. In one way or another, even the rest of us share those moments. If we had all just been given the the chance to capture the hearts of so many.....We all have agendas. Some personal and some political, whether we admit it or not. I challenge you to look in the mirror and tell me you dont want to be Evel Knievel in some way. So many of us seek the limelight, so few of us deserve it. Few men, have had the grit, gallantry, and insight to capture it. In an effort feel closer to his unabashed greatness, I for one, express myself in the art, painting his helmets. No doubt, its an effort for me personally live to vicariously through his memory and my own dreamy, lost adolescence. For those who have not attempted to recreate his helmets and establish that connection, you cant fully realize the challenge within. None the less, I know your keen, addicted...and yet admiring eye, appreciates the effort that several of us put forth. The visceral experience of watching Evel and somehow recapturing his magic through the inspired helmet art is indeed rewarding for me. I went to recognize those talented artists like Robby, Kevin, Scott and Dave amongst others who have endeavored to perpetuate Evels memory, I salute you all. Gary
