Exactly 45 years ago today, as a 9 year-old I was glued to the TV for 3 days, staying up until unprecedented times. The planet was transfixed. A decades worth of epic expense and the sacrifices of many lives hung perilously at risk. We had three astronauts on the way to the moon. Three brave souls who as engineer-pilots only judged their own chances of survival to be about 50-60%. Three brave men slipped the surly bonds of Earth, and proudly went where no man had gone before. They were Michael Collins (the one who had to remain in the command module) and the two who went down to take those small steps for man, but huge steps for mankind----Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong.
