Expanded Use of Aluminum Extrusions in Vehicle Lightweighting Programs the Focus of New SAE International Webcast WARRENDALE, Pa. (Nov. 3, 2014) – SAE International offers, “Successful Application of Aluminum Extrusion to Lightweighting Programs,” a free, one-hour webcast that will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. (U.S. EST). With the forthcoming launch of Ford’s F-150 and Jaguar’s new XE, aluminum has moved into the spotlight for vehicles that meet tomorrow’s fuel economy targets, while still providing the comfort, safety, performance, and amenities that consumers demand. Yet while much of the attention has been on aluminum body sheet, there is plenty of action “below the skin” with increasing use of aluminum extrusions in chassis, body, and a host of other applications. This one-hour webcast will discuss key factors for the successful application of aluminum extrusions in lightweighting programs. Participants will learn about: • High leverage applications for extrusions • Alloy selection and tailoring • Best practices in part design to optimize functionality and production economics • Assembly technology and its impact on part design In addition, several mini case studies, with economic justification, will be included and webcast attendees will be invited to interact with the experts during a Q&A segment. Speakers will include: • Jerome Fourmann, Technical Manager, Billet & Foundry Products, North America, Rio Tinto Alcan • Rob Nelson, Sales Manager, Almag Aluminum, and AEC Automotive Team member The webcast is sponsored by the Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC), and hosted by SAE International. Moderator will be Lisa Arrigo, Custom Electronic Products Editor, SAE International. To find the start time in a different time zone, visit timezoneconverter/.
