FANTASTIC, CHALLENGING AND MOST HEALING BOOK: WILD SWANS - NOT a novel, but family memoir about four generations of courageous Chinese women, intensely challenged within their respective socio-political context. I could not put this book down, and learned a lot not only about traditional and Maoist China and Chinese, but also about humans and life in general. This reading made me evolve as a person in a very deep way, for the better, amongst other by very much scaling down my perception of my own problems - Chinese history is so replete with massive and all encompassing issues and atrocities, which hundreds of millions had to live through and many to die from! Up till recently I was avoiding reading about such tough events, and needed to heal myself emotionally in order to go for something like this book. theguardian/books/2005/may/26/biography.china
