FB PLS READ I was recently informed about a young couple who is staring both life and death in the face simultaneously. Amanda and her husband Chris are expecting their first child together and although this should be one of the happiest times of their life, it has quickly become the most difficult. Only days after receiving this joyous news, Amanda was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). For those of you who aren’t familiar with it ALS, it is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that causes the deterioration of motor neurons. As those motor neurons die, her brain will no longer be able to control her voluntary muscle movements and eventually all of her muscles will fade away. There is no treatment for ALS, there is no cure, the inevitable end is death. Although all seems hopeless, Chris and Amanda find hope in knowing that one day they may be able to meet their precious baby. Chris and Amanda are doing all they can in an effort to prolong her life and save the life of their unborn child. Pregnancy accelerates the progression of ALS and already, within weeks, Amanda’s condition has worsened to the point where she can no longer walk and has lost over fifty percent of her respiratory capacity. To help keep hope alive, there will be a fundraiser to help raise money to support their medical needs this Saturday at the Bridgeport Bluefish game. Tickets are $11 and you can order them online with the ticket code: Angels Portions of the proceeds will go to Chris and Amanda. I’m asking you to please help this young couple in their darkest time. I lost my grandfather to this same disease years ago. My family knows what it is to see your loved one deteriorate right before your eyes. It’s my hope that even through this difficult time, life can still be brought forth. Order ticket on bridgeportbluefish/ or call (203) 210-BLUE
