FCI 2014 has been a wild ride. There are so many aspects to participating in such an event. Being a traveller with a dog, a competitor, companion, team member and problem solver. At the moment I am a problem solving traveller with a dog. My flight home was cancelled because of the pilot strike in Paris. So far I have spent a total of over 4 hrs on the phone(being charged international long distance charges) with the airline and about 1 hr at the airline counter trying to figure out how to get home with my dog. The best they can do is a next day flight which involves a lot of rearranging for me and the dog. I am not really complaining just telling the story of what can be part of competing in such an event. It has been an amazing experience to partake in such an event. I had no idea before hand how intense it would be and the depth of the competion. I now know that I would prepare my dog differently both before and during the event. Quake and I placed 93 out of 122. Sure I would have liked to do better but having the experience, loving my dog, making good friends, having the support of so many people back home, seeing some of the country is reward enough. It was a honor to represent Canada especially as it was the first time Canada sent a team to the FCI.
