FEDERAL LAW MAKES IT ILLEGAL FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO ENGAGE IN PUBLIC PROPAGANDA. The Smith-Mundt Act of 1948 authorized the U.S. government to generate and disseminate programming in foreign nations to combat widespread disinformation about U.S policies, but it specifically forbade creation of programming for U.S. audiences. Today, government public affairs departments flood the public with information they want to disseminate while withholding or stonewalling public information requested by the public, news media or Inspectors General. Goebbels said If you tell a lie big enough & keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It is thus vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.
