FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 - Projections, an assessment based on deservability If we just talk about deservability then what would you say about which team making to the final, the semi final, the quarter final? In my opinion, the following teams deserve to be there respectively (given below after a few lines). You may call it prediction also, yes. #Assessment #Prediction #Deservability #Merit I will not talk about who wins the final because it will sound outrageous at this stage. Its too early. Tournament is not even halfway through. I will not even say who will make it to the finals after winning their semifinals. However, I will not stop at making a dig at who deserves to enter the semifinals. Mind you, this is not the same as shall enter semifinals. So I have taken into account the points scored by the teams and the way they are playing. Look, example is this: Netherlands has 9 points. They have won all their 3 matches. Obviously, I am not saying that certainly they shall win the World Cup for there may be other teams with 9 points from 3 matches at this stage (in fact now there are). And they still have to play with other teams. And I am not saying also that they will win their semi finals and enter finals. That is also an overreach. But yes, I would like to say that they deserve to be in the semifinals. I will climb down till here. So yes, there may be 5 teams with 9 points after their 3 matches. Yes, they all deserve to be in the semis then! Obviously that is not possible, but remember I said deservability. Such an assessment would still seem futile and a little silly. And in any case, in the prequarters eliminations shall take place. Doesnt matter. It is deservability. So by that yardstick, the following teams deserve to be there: SEMI FINALS:- 1. Netherlands (won all three matches; above Colombia because Chile in their group had also beaten the remaining two). 2. Colombia (won all three matches, but Greece, the 2nd placed team in their group, had drawn a match, therefore Colombia is below Netherlands). 3. Argentina (won all three matches, but Nigeria, the 2nd placed team in their group, had drawn a match, therefore Argentina is similarly placed as Colombia (below Netherlands) but because Argentina is not playing very profoundly yet, therefore has been placed below Colombia). (In fact, I suppose if there was a place between SF and QF, I would have placed Argentina there, anyway..) #SemiFinal #Netherlands #Colombia #Argentina #Last4 And at this stage, Belgium look set to be part of the deserving the semifinal place tag because of the way they are playing and whatever else is happening in their group (they may very well be placed like Netherlands - winning all three and the 2nd placed team in their group (Algeria) winning its other two matches - hypothetical, HYPOTHETICAL - though it seems so). So I can safely place Belgium as deserving to be in the QF, and not the semifinal yet (one match remaining). But no, not right at this stage, therefore, PQF is safe placement as per deservability. France too seem all set (one match remaining). But their deservability is lower since the other teams are playing the way they are playing. So Belgium, France are in PQF and Belgium placed above France! Germany USA match I thought will be a cracker. It may be. They dont deserve to be in the semi final yet certainly (they have both drawn a match I notice - not when playing each other). In fact, group is still open. In fact, Ghana Portugal match will also decide of course. . . . . . QUARTER FINALS: 1. Brazil (did not lose any but drew one) - 7 points 2. Mexico (did not lose but drew one - 7 points) 3. Costa Rica (did not lose but drew one - 7 points - they are placed third here because they drew with England who had lost their other 2 matches) #QuarterFinal #Brazil #Mexico #CostaRica #Last8 PRE QUARTER FINALS: 1. Chile (won two and lost one - 6 points; lost to the one who had beaten the remaining two teams in the group) 2. Uruguay (won two and lost one - 6 points; lost to the one who had actually drawn another match in their group - therefore placed below Chile even though Uruguay like Chile in their group lost to the top placed team) (In fact I would like to place Uruguay half a rung down but there is no such rung and .. well it is ok.) 3. Belgium (won two - 6 points and one match still remaining and they are playing fine) 4. France (won two - 6 points and one match still remaining and they are playing fine) #PreQuarterFinal #Chile #Uruguay #Last16 #Belgium #France And yes, Chile and Uruguay are both in the PQF. There are other teams in the PQF already and I am not naming them because their performance has been below all the teams performance as mentioned above, and I also want to play safe in terms of merit and overall performance and ... restraint? ..!
