FITNESS FRIDAY - Basic Training Advice For Beginners: The best piece of simple advice I can offer is to schedule a small amount of time every day (even just 20-30 mins), six days-a-week, and alternate between cardio and resistance training to allow the muscles to recover sufficiently. For example: Monday: Resistance - Full body exercises Tuesday: Cardio - Running Wednesday: Resistance - Full body exercises Thursday: Cardio - Swimming Friday: Resistance - Full body exercises Saturday: Cardio - Cycling Sunday: Rest Obviously adapt the type of exercise and days you train to suit your enjoyment and lifestyle. The most important thing is to make it part of your everyday routine and maintain regular healthy habits - thats when improvements will naturally occur and you will benefit the most overall. With regards to your resistance training, try and vary the exercises you do each time to make it varied and interesting. I would suggest you start with 5 different exercises and perform 2 sets of 10 repetitions for each. Although this is a general rule, and you could increase the number of reps on certain muscle groups i.e. core. For example: 1. Legs - Squats or Lunges 2. Back - Bent-over rows or Deadlifts 3. Chest - Press-ups or flyes 4. Arms & Shoulders - Hammer curls, Tricep dips or Shoulder presses 5. Core - Sit-ups or Bicycles Youll be able to look these up and find others to work each muscle group using youtube.
