FIV+ Barney’s Christmas Miracle! ADOPTED! You might remember our recent story of “Betty” aka Barney - a very pretty kitty who showed up at the home of a 98 year old man in Hunterdon Co NJ and it was mutual love at first sight. Betty could not go in the house due to a territorial indoor cat, so Betty waited outside each morning for breakfast and a love fest with the elderly care giver named Bill. Sadly Bill died in Sept and the family called LAW to help find a home for Betty, as it was their father’s dying wish that Betty be cared for. After a visit to the Vet, it turns out that Betty was actually a Barney! Barney was very healthy but unfortunately tested positive for FIV…..the family was then given some misinformation that FIV cats are not adoptable and so Barney was put back outside with Winter housing and daily feedings. OH NO! LAW felt that Barney was worthy of a loving indoor family and put out a plea on Facebook…. A very compassionate Lambertville family heard our pleas…..they had recently adopted Josie (now Casey) from us….Josie was rescued from a cruelty case in the middle of last Winter’s Vortex in Delaware Township Hunterdon County - she and two other cats were found practically frozen in filthy wire cages in a back yard - thanks to a collaboration with ACO Nate Barson, Tabby’s Place, and LAW, all 3 cats were rescued and adopted! AND NOW….Mr & Mrs Compassionate have ADOPTED Barney into their loving home to join Casey, AND changed his name to Bill in honor of his beloved caregiver. It turns out that Bill was known as Father Paul and was a Parish Priest for 70 years - the last 50 years at St Marys Orthodox Church in Bay Ridge Brooklyn. He was a remarkable man - filled with compassion, a sharp intellect, and a lively curiosity. Read his story here: svots.edu/headlines/memoriam-very-rev-paul-schneirla LAW is truly humbled and honored to fulfill Bill aka Father Paul’s last wishes to take care of his beloved “Betty” and we are so incredibly grateful to his adopters for showing such compassion by adopting Bill. Bill the cat is a very loving snuggle bunny who LOVES his new home and his new owners ADORE HIM! Father Paul - Thank you for dedicating your life to people in need - We are honored and humbled that we could fulfill your wish just a few days before Christmas.
