FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR LAS PALOMAS AND CUCHILLO CREEK The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Las Palomas and Cuchillo Creek. The areas feeding the Las Palomas and Cuchillo basins have received significant rainfall this afternoon. It is not soaking into the ground. It is going to be coming down the creeks in the next few hours. Because it is late in the day the probability is that the flow will reach the community of Las Palomas after dark. Prepare now if you feel that your home or property will be affected. It will be much easier to make preparations in the daylight than to wait until the flows reach Las Palomas. The following is the statement from the National Weather Service: * AT 518 PM MDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED SLOW MOVING THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAINFALL ACROSS THE WARNED AREA. THE CUCHILLO NEGRAS AND LAS PALOMAS CREEK BASINS HAVE RECEIVED ABUNDANT RAINFALL THE LAST SEVERAL DAY AND THE GROUND IN BOTH BASINS IS SATURATED. RAINFALL IN THESE BASIN IS NOT SOAKING INTO THE GROUND AND IS QUICKLY RUNNING OFF DOWNSTREAM. RESIDENTS IN THE TOWNS OF CUCHILLO AND LAS PALOMAS NEED TO BE READY FOR HIGHER FLOWS COMING DOWN THESE CREEKS IN THE NEXT FEW HOURS.
