FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Arrests Made in Homicide Investigation Brookhaven, GA August 1, 2014 – Brookhaven Police Detectives have charged Juan Carlos Ramirez, 18 year old male, of Brookhaven with the Murder of Justin Acevedo that occurred yesterday, July 31, 2014. Detectives located the firearm believed to have been used along with other items of evidence including Marijuana as a result of a search warrant at 1353 N Cliff Valley Way. The shooting occurred just before noon on Thursday, July 31, on N Cliff Valley Way at Coosawattee Drive. Investigators have learned that Ramirez and Acevedo were involved in a verbal confrontation when the shooting occurred. Both Ramirez and Acevedo lived at Parke Towne North Apartments. Brookhaven Police officers responded to the shooting and quickly secured the scene as well as the apartment complex where witnesses reported seeing a group of people, including the shooter, running. Officers quickly located a group of four people that they believed were involved. Detectives worked tirelessly to piece together evidence and witness statements to determine the identity of the suspect. The shooter was eventually identified as Ramirez. The other individuals involved were also arrested and charged in connection with this investigation. All four were transported to the DeKalb County Jail. Arrested: 1. False Name and Date of Birth (Misdemeanor) c. Possession of Marijuana less than 1 oz. (Misdemeanor) 3. Petra Pineda Cortez; 18 year old female (Brookhaven, GA) a. Disorderly Conduct (City Ordinance) b. Obstruction of Law Enforcement (City Ordinance) 4. Francisco Munoz; 22 year old male (Brookhaven, GA) a. Disorderly Conduct (City Ordinance) b. Obstruction of Law Enforcement (City Ordinance)
