FOR THE FANS-UPDATE ON GATHERINGS-- BOSTON AND PHILADELPHIA INFORMATION Thanks for all the requests about fan meetings for North American concerts. I have been overwhelmed and have heard from fans as far away as Germany (thanks Anja and the 11 people she is bringing to dinner in NY—so excited to meet you all). I know you will all have a wonderful time wherever you plan to see Barry perform. I have been working on fan dinner gatherings in Boston, Philly, NY and Chicago first. Restaurants that can accommodate us are being secured, and I will post details in the first week of May, when I will need a head count for those who would like to join us. As of now, we will gather in late afternoon the day of the concert for drinks and early dinner. I will also suggest great spots for after concert partying and breakfast spots the morning following the concert. Below I have provided pertinent information for Boston and Philadelphia. BOSTON-TD GARDEN, 100 LEGENDS WAY, BOSTON, MASS. 02114 PHONE:617-624-1050 The TD Garden is located in Boston’s downtown North section. It is just a short walk from the historic North End and Faneuil Hall. This area is an amazing urban marketplace and offers many historic sights, such as the Freedom Trail, all within walking distance to the Garden. Check with the AAA for the many shops, restaurants and tours provided. Those attending the concert should know that laptops, backpacks, luggage, coolers and briefcases are prohibited. All guests are subject to search of their person and possessions. There is no place to check in parcels. Enter the TD Garden through the North Station terminal on Nashua Street or on Legends Way. If you are driving, the North Station Garage under the Garden offers a flat event rate if you arrive 2 and ½ hours before the concert. I have driven in Boston and traffic does get backed up, so give yourselves plenty of time. Elevators in the garage will bring you to the main concourse in North Station. You can secure a parking space in advance. Check out the website at tdgarden to obtain a space and to find more information about the Garden. Some of the fun spots for after the concert are The Greatest Bar (across the street from TD Garden at 262 Friend St.), Porters Bar and Grill at 173 Portland St. and The Fours at166 Canal Street. These are close to the venue and come highly recommended. PHILADELPHIA-WELLS FARGO CENTER-ONE CITIZENS BANK WAY, (also 3601 S. Broad St.)PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA 19148 Phone 215-952-0300. The Wells Fargo Center is located off the Broad St. Exit on Interstate 95. There are 8 parking lots, which are well lit and patrolled by security during all events. For those driving, parking alerts are provided for the day of the concert, which forecasts traffic volume on event days. To reserve parking in advance, call 1-800-298-4200. I don’t think the driving is a bad as the driving in Boston, although some people may argue that point with me. (I find Boston more difficult to navigate and more expensive overall.) The Center sits at the southwest corner of the South Philadelphia Sports Complex, which includes Lincoln Financial Field, Citizens Bank Park and Xfinity Live. Xifinity Live is a dining and entertainment district and includes some great places to go after the concert, such as the Spectrum Grill (ph. 267-443-6416), Broad Street Bullies Pub, and the PBR Bar and Grill (267-443-6419). The Philly Marketplace is also located here and would be a great place to visit it you are staying in Philadelphia more than a day or two. For anyone visiting Philadelphia, you must have a famous Philly Cheesesteak. There are two places that argue they are the best in the city, and there is a great rivalry. Located 2 miles from the concert venue and situated very close to one another, Pats King of Steaks (open 24 hours) at 1237 E. Passyunk Avenue and Genos Steaks at 1219 S. 9th Street are the best of the best. This is a must for visitors. You will not be disappointed. We could talk about food in Philly for several paragraphs, and I will add more info later. Regarding the Center itself, it officially seats 20, 318 people and is a multi-purpose indoor arena, home to several professional sports teams, including the Philadelphia 76ers of the National Basketball Association and the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League. There are some restaurants and clubs available for patrons, but some of them are private. The offices and studios of NBC Sports and Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia are located inside the facility as well. Our Barry is in great company. A private concert by Ray Charles was the first event at the Center with a crowd of 12, 000. Both Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen have sellout banners hanging from the rafters.
