FOR THOSE WHO CLAIM THEY DO NOT LISTEN TO FOREIGN MEDIA Now, - TopicsExpress

FOR THOSE WHO CLAIM THEY DO NOT LISTEN TO FOREIGN MEDIA Now, severally during discussions with on-line characters on a wide range of International issues, I have come across the cliché I do not listen to foreign media or you listen too much to foreign media from people who otherwise are entirely helpless on how to come off their bias or incapable of intellectually sieving through the reports given to us by otherwise biased media outlets and separating the wheat from the chaff. To them, you are either pro or anti West, pro or anti China or Russia....,and when it comes to Nigerian politics, you are either pro or anti Jonathan, or pro or anti Buhari or APC, pro or anti-Igbo, or pro or anti-Yoruba. These silly people give you the impression that whatever information they have emanated from the Moon, whereas they share articles and links which emanated from the same media they criticise. Aside that, when you read their opinions on the same issues, it is so devoid of logic and common sense but full of bias and rhetoric you cannot help but shake your head. Even the components of arguments they peddle as facts are sometimes unconfirmed, at other times spurious, and occasionally out-right lies. Now, as an ardent follower of News, I am aware of the pecuniary interests of various media outlets with regards to their primary loyalty which could be a political party, a country, or even an individual. When I want to hear the truth about the Republican Party of America, I do not take Fox News very seriously for very obvious reasons, the same way I will not take MSNBC seriously if I want to find out a negative truth about the Democratic Party. If there is an International event concerning the United States, I listen to CNN, but also hear the takes on Russian and Chinese News to find out if there is any patriot bias to the news item. As for CNN, if a negative news involves Ted Turner (the owner of CNN) you bet CNN will not be my only source of News. If Rupert Murdock gets involved in a scandal, you will hardly find me quoting Sky News sources. On the local scene, you do not expect me to take Sun Newspapers seriously when they say Orji Uzor Kalu is free from corruption without confirming from other news outlets. And when Tribune writes something about Tinubu, I will take with a pinch of salt until I have read the same severally somewhere else. This is in addition to reading many on-line and off-line articles on the history of the event, nation or individual making the news. And by discussing with other brilliant minds on issues, you either get to re-inforce, modify or even reverse your opinions on issues............Now, aside from being at the war front or disaster zone yourself (is that not what the journalists are paid to do), I cannot possibly tell how Mr. I do not listen to foreign media gathers his news. It even becomes more ridiculous when the same people cannot even articulate a logical, factual, coherent and consistent response to opinions. Please, if you are not a paid agent for some pay master whom you need to defend against all logic (e.g Reno Omokri or Lai Mohammed or some ambassador) do not stunt your intellectual growth. The world in general is not an open-shut case of black and white...,its actually several shades of grey, and only the open minded will tell the difference between those shades. Moreso, opinions based on puritan and supremacist ideologies have never worked, it did not work when the world was less advanced, it even stands less chances now everyones eyes are open. Let those who have ears hear.
