FOURTH OF JULY: KYLE STYLE After chemo last Wednesday, Kyle had - TopicsExpress

FOURTH OF JULY: KYLE STYLE After chemo last Wednesday, Kyle had a burst of energy and we got the go ahead from our doctor to be impulsive and drive to Wisconsin for the 4th of July. This is how that decision panned out: THE CONS: 32 hours of highway driving—16 hours straight each way. 48 hour stay in DeForest. 12 hours of Kyle Freeland feeling good before a drop to zero energy. Rushing out early and missing a connection with some family and some friends. THE PROS: Learning how well Alek drives on the highway. Awesome job! Getting to eat at Pedros with my mom and my sister. Spending major quality time with my BFF, Jenni and her family. Playing bingo and hanging out with Carol and Jenn. Running into my old neighbors, Jim and Judy, and an old high school friend at the hot dog stand. Cool to see you, Kristin! Hugging my pseudo-sister, Ellen. A few hours of catch-up with my best, best, best friend from middle school and high school, Sarah. A lot’s happened in the last twenty years. The pros seriously outweigh the cons, even after we ended up in the clinic today with medication issues. So I’m glad we went. Last Wednesday, Kyle’s chemo regimen called for a seven day stint of Dexamethasone. THE MOST HIDEOUS STEROID ON THE PLANET. This morning Kyle woke up feeling extremely fatigued. Yes, I may or may not be a bad mother for taking him to Wisconsin, the jury is still out. But the tiredness wasn’t the biggest issue. He also started feeling weird like he did last time he took the Dex. If you don’t remember last time, I do. Alter-ego Kyle came out to play. Horrible 911 experience. Emergency room drama. Major anxiety attack (that was me). Five day hospital stay. Six week recovery before he was back to my Kyle. Not a time period I’d like to repeat. The Good News: I think we caught the symptoms early this time. What’s scary is that the weirdness started only five days into the drug. Last time it took at least 2 ½ weeks. The doctor has stopped Kyles steroids and we are in the process of a new plan. Not sure what thats going to be yet, but Ill have a better idea on Wednesday. Now, to get through the next week or so until the effects of the Dex are out of his system... As always, prayers appreciated.
