FQ: Hi, Im 35, and pregnant with our first. Were 7.5 weeks so its weird writing you because we havent even told our friends yet but Im telling your thousands of members now for some advice...Im a Facility Manager and have sites across the state I manage. One site had a flood: walls/sheetrock destroyed, furniture drawers full of water (literally), ceiling tiles and light fixtures coming down, etc. carpet drenched, completely saturated, inches of water stood on the carpet for three solid days. Now, my employer wants me to go to the site and assess the damage, meet with the client to reassure them we have it covered, etc. They are insisting I go, which is fair of them. Thats my job and would have never been an issue before, I wouldnt have hesitated, even though its a hazardous environment without being pregnant. But now.....I was basically forced to tell them Im pregnant, WAY before I wanted to and before I was required to according to their maternity policy. My care giver said it was a bad idea to go and I should definitely avoid that environment due to mold, electrical risks, etc. and everything being so vulnerable during this point in the pregnancy. I just notified my boss Im pregnant. I told him there was no way I could go and be exposed to this environment. Now Im sitting here staring at my email waiting for his response, terrified hes going to come back and tell me to go anyway, or just say, ok, fine, dont go; well find someone to do your job for you and then Ill just be out the door! I know Im being irrational but all I can think is that I either have to go in to an environment that isnt safe, or I am going to lose my job. have any of you been through similar circumstances? Am I just being crazy? I know I probably already screwed up by telling them, but thats al said and done so I cant take it back now! Heh. Anybody have any words of wisdom for me here or been in a career where these kinds of risks/hazards came up during their pregnancies? ~11
