FROM CITY PRESS: The Democratic Alliance in Limpopo has pressed charges of hate speech against a senior official of the provincial education department after he was caught using the k-word while addressing students. The party is accusing Dr Ntavhanyeni Phaswana, a circuit manager at the basic education department in the Vhembe District of using “expletive language, promoting racial discord and violence” in his speech. An angry Phaswana, claims the DA used inappropriate language when addressing Grade 12 pupils at the Eric Louw Hoërskool on July 19. It would appear that one of the pupils recorded Phaswana, who wasn’t aware that he was being recorded. The DA says it received the recorded clip from a whistle-blower. On the clip, the person, whom they say is Phaswana, can be heard saying: “I don’t play games, I don’t play games. You want to study, you come here it’s fine and we are all smiles. You don’t want to study, you voetsek. You just go. That is me, you don’t mess up with me, not now not ever. Nobody messes up with me.” He went on to say: “If you are a Grade 12 who doesn’t want to be here and bend every rule of the school, God help me, you will be sorry because I’m not going to have mercy on anyone who bends the rules. “Even before I listen to anybody from any farm or anybody from any political camp, whether you are a member of the Inkatha Freedom Party or your parents are politicians anywhere, I’m not interested. Ek is fokken gatvol vir mense wat kom by my; hulle maak asof hulle kinders niks maak nie. (I’m f*****g tired of your parents who come to me and pretend like you didn’t do anything). “Do you know where your exam scripts go to when you write? After writing do you know what happens? I send those k*****s here to come collect those scripts and they come to me. So al die k*****s wat hier kom om julle vraestelle te optel, julle bring julle name (inaudible). (So all the k*****s who come here to collect your scripts, they bring your names along). “Ek kan maak enige ding wat ek wil met die vraestele. (I can do whatever I want with your exam scripts).” The recording continued: “You wont know what hit you, you don’t mess up with me. You are messing up with the wrong guy. Your scripts may not be found at the same time. I don’t deal with empty threats, I don’t threaten people. When I want to hit people, I just hit them.
