FROM THE CITY MANAGERS OFFICE: Recently, the City has mistakenly deviated from the prior practice of taking dogs and cats picked up by our animal control officer to the Macomb County Animal Shelter and has instead used a different facility. Once being made aware of the error, we retrieved all but three (3) of the animals brought to the wrong facility and took them to the County Shelter. Two (2) of the animals were kittens that were turned in by the owner. They were given to the animal rescue group A Hopeful Heart (586-260-0650). The other animal, a dog that appears to be a Maltese, was picked up on April 28th in the area of Blackburn and Harper. This animal was rescued by the POET rescue group (facebook/POETAnimalRescue). The two animals that have since been taken to the Macomb County Animal Shelter (586-469-5115). They were a beagle mix picked up on May 6th in the area of Harper and Martin. The other is a Schnauzer mix that was picked up on May 6th that was found in the area of 12 Mile and Greater Mack. We apologize for any concern or confusion this may have caused for or residents.
