FROM THE NEWSROOM: A previously unreported power surge took place at the Woodstock Middle School in late December, according to the Woodstock Board of Education, which reported that the surge did cause damage, but the majority of the issues the surge created have been corrected. The surge resulted from a roadside telephone wire that was accidentally downed during tree work being done by CL&P on December 20th. Security power supplies, 50 emergency lighting ballasts, and the schools phone system immediately suffered a shortage from the surge of power. Woodstock School Superintendent Dr. Frank Baran assured that everything was repaired in good time, “with the exception of the telephones—which, as I mentioned to the Board of Ed—weve kind of put together a patchwork, and its holding, but you cant guarantee it.” The school started off by filing a claim with its insurance provider, and then making a claim with CL&P. The only cost that coverage is uncertain for is that of the installation of a new telephone system—a price which was quoted at about $11,500. Tune in for the full report.
