FROM THE NEWSROOM: HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut Republicans have chosen an Ellington accountant to challenge Democratic State Comptroller Kevin Lembo in November. Sharon McLaughin defeated Angel Cadena, a Marine Corps veteran who now lives in Shelton, in unofficial results. McLaughin had won the partys endorsement at the May state convention. She is currently secretary of the Ellington Republican Town Committee and a director of the Grassroots East board. McLaughlin earned a graduate degree in accounting at Southern New Hampshire University and cites a variety of business experience, including 15 years employed at ENTEX/Siemens. She said she has also worked in internal accounting roles. Lembo was first elected comptroller in 2010. The comptroller is responsible for monitoring the states fiscal condition.
