FROM THE NEWSROOM: NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Hundreds of people are packing into a New Haven high school gymnasium to see first lady Michelle Obama, the latest high-profile Democrat to campaign for Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy. The presidents wife was scheduled to appear Thursday at an afternoon campaign rally at Wilbur Cross High School. Her husband, President Barack Obama, was scheduled to headline another rally on Sunday afternoon in Bridgeport. The fire marshals office said 1,600 were inside the gym while 300 were allowed to listen to the rally from an overflow room. Democrats are working to encourage their base to come out and vote in this years tight gubernatorial election. A Quinnipiac (KWIHN-ih-pee-ak) University Poll released Wednesday, show Malloy and his Republican challenger, Greenwich businessman Tom Foley, remain in a dead heat.
