FROM THE NEWSROOM: While many other nearby towns have discussed and considered – and even voted to participate in – joining with Putnams Quinebaug Regional Technology Park in recent months, officials in the town of Pomfret say they too will now consider making an investment in the project. First Selectman Maureen Nicholson says that following a joint meeting between the Boards of Selectmen and Finance, the decision to bring the issue to a special town meeting was fairly unanimous. Officials expect that meeting will be scheduled for September. Nicholson says that while potential investment in the regional tech park has recently been widely discussed, several factors prevented officials in that town from sitting down and considering it until now . Nicholson says that budget discussions and meeting schedules had kept officials from sitting down for serious talks about the venture, but now that other matters have been resolved now is a good time to inform Pomfret residents about what the partnership could mean for that town going forward.
