Facebook has enabled us to never forget a birthday and to be inundated with well wishes when that day arrives in our own life. But as much as that seems to connect us closer together, it also operates to drag us further apart in some ways. Remember the simple joy of that birthday card in the actual mail and the phone calls from friends and family? Now its seemingly enough if we write on a virtual wall or send a text. But even in this new age we live in, there still comes along a special persons birthday from time to time where you manage to get a card and actually mail it a few days ahead of time and text and call them on their special day. Heck, you probably even find a way to make sure you see them face to face whether its to hand them a gift or just to show them the day means something a little extra, even if they dont necessarily agree. Happy Birthday to one such person in my life, Dawn Arnold Fessel! I would have never imagined we would go from Courtroom adversaries to Best Friends, but Im so very thankful we did. Like me, your own birthday is not a cause for celebration internally, but please excuse those of us who choose to celebrate the birth of such an amazing person.
