Fairly often, I receive calls or messages about chins that have stopped eating. While a diagnosis is impossible, there are some commonalities. The chin needs to see a vet immediately. A matter of hours can make the difference between life or death. Do you have an experienced chin vet who will see you at 2 AM on a Sunday morning? Monday morning will be too late. A chin that hasnt eaten in two days is in stasis and may not recover. It needs food immediately. If Oxbows Critical Care is not available, grinding up the pellets from their normal diet may help for a little while, but are syringes available to feed? If you do not plan ahead it is very likely you will lose your chin. Get some Critical Care and introduce your chin to it before it is needed. Have a couple good 3-5cc oral syringes from your vet The soft plastic ones from the pet store are not very useful as the chins can bite the tips off. If you think there is something wrong with your chin, trust yourself. It is possibly within 48 hours of dieing. Dont wait a minute longer than you have to. A large amount of inconvenience is better than dealing with your chins death.
