Families of the martyred troops urged the country’s political leadership to take a firm and united stand against terrorists in the wake of rising violence. Appearing in SAMAA’s current affairs program, ‘Nadeem Malik Live’, Wahida Amir, sister of Captain Najam Shaheed, said that elements, who are spreading violence in Pakistan, are traitors, who should be dealt with accordingly. “The state should go after those who are sending these suicide bombers. We should not forgive such elements anymore,” she said. She dispelled the impression that terrorists had anything to do with Islam or Sharia. “As a common citizen, I think that army has restored its image as a national institution. On the other hand, our leadership, as a whole, is very weak and confused,” she opined. Mother of Captain Najam Shaheed said that she was happy that her son had sacrificed his life for Pakistan. “If I had 10 sons, I would have sacrificed all of them for the sake of our motherland,” she vowed. Parents of Captain Umar Zaib Shaheed said that their son had embraced martyrdom few days after Captain Najam was martyred. Captain (retd.) Afzal Zaib, father of Captain Umar Zaib Shaheed, recalled that his son was very upset at the martyrdom of Captain Najam. He quoted his son as saying that some caught terrorists were not even able to recite Salat or Kalma. “We are still in a state of confusion that it is our war or not. There is no place in Pakistan for this confusion any more… Our government and politicians should have a united stand.” “Why are we, as a nation, still confused. We have a very big army. We have a very big country. These terrorists are few 1000s. We have no strategy. We have no clear idea what to do,” he contended. He said that these so-called leaders won’t determine any policy unless their own children were killed. “Our children will continue to sacrifice their lives, but our leaders are sleeping. They must wake up now,” he said. Former Sindh governor Lt-Gen Moin-ud-Din Haider said that the situation was very alarming, adding that a handful of terrorists were inflicting so much destruction in Pakistan. “The nation is united against them. The nation has rejected terrorists, who target unarmed civilians by acting cowardly,” he said. He called upon the nation to show unity against terrorists who stood exposed now. He said that fighting terrorists was the only option left for Pakistan. Senior MQM leader Wasim Akhtar lamented that those who were sacrificing their lives were not a priority in today’s cabinet meeting. “Negotiations still remain a priority for the government. These things are just delaying tactics. It is a five-year plan. We need to take decisions on war footing. The nation is aware, but unfortunately, government is not realizing the gravity of the situation. ,” he said. “Why is political leadership so confused? We have no brave leaders. It is very vital for leaders to be courageous. The whole nation is on same page. But some political and religious parties are not on the same page. If the government doesn’t take a drastic operation in a week or two, then it will be too late.” Senior political analyst Dr Shahid Masood said that the national security policy was not yet visible. He noted that APC, which was attended by all political parties, had called Taliban as stake holders and then nothing happened for the next five months. He said that even small groups were not ready to negotiate with the government now. Dr Shahid Masood pointed out that the government had no clear policy to deal with terrorism. - SAMAA samaa.tv/Families-of-martyred-soldiers-demand-firm-action-against-terrorists-76245-1.html
