Fancy an action packed film? Check out Edge Of Tomorrow and read my review! Thank you and keep on reading! Also, check out my publishings on the websites Ive put in my last status :) Film Review - Edge Of Tomorrow Film: Edge Of Tomorrow Edge Of Tomorrow is what I would describe as the science fiction thriller of Groundhog Day. The concept of this narrative is simple yet effective as its centric on the repetitiveness of situations. Tom Cruise delivers a great performance with his acting to deliver a them vs us concept which constantly assists the story. With high class settings such as London and army headquarters, this film is driven to circulate around war like activities. Cinematography is developed as the film goes on, distinguishing the calm and manic scenes. Tracking shots represent whats happening whilst showing several fight sequences at once which the audience like to see due to it being varied in its delivery of a film. We as an audience get to understand the characters, their life stories and the importance of their part to play in this battle that constructs this film. In this film, Earth is under attack from an alien race. As nobody can stop them, Major William Cage is thrown into a time loop to undergo a serious suicide mission. As he dies and comes back to life repeatedly, his skills evolve and each battle moves them one step closer to defeating the enemy. When Cage learns that he is repeating the battle at the beach, his training sequences are one of the best parts of this film. Cage eventually develops skills that take years to learn, contrasting to earlier in the film when he couldnt take off the safety of his weapon. This scene dispersed with moments in the battlefield are comical, angry and satisfying to the audience as they watch him grow into a soldier. I love how the connection between the two soldiers is based on his repetition in this scene. He gradually gets to know her features which was rather funny to endure and they build a strong connection, you have sugar in your coffee right? As well as the amusing dialogue, I loved the pace that the scene had, it didnt drag at all and it is designed to maintain the audiences interest through their unknown expectations of whats going to happen. Major William Cage acts as an unknown character when he wakes up on a military base from being arrested. He seems as if hes lost his identity and doesnt know who he is anymore when really hes been tasered and has woken up. From being an officer, he falls back to the bottom of the pile due to the treatment of his appearance, youre not in uniform, private! However, as he begins to understand the way things work in this new and modernised aspect, he rises to the challenge and possesses status and power over anyone who crosses him. As a character, being able to convert from a coward to a hero can be hard to do as those characteristics are at opposite ends. However, Tom Cruise pulls it off very well and suits the part, making it seem iconic with a unique twist to his usual action characters he portrays in other films. Edge Of Tomorrow being mostly fast paced, the cinematography had to be subliminal in some moments to make sure everything was visible to the audience at some point or another. The battle scenes placed the audience as having a camera behind the characters filming their every move due to it being over the shoulder shots or tracking camerawork. In the calm scenes, the camerawork had to express characters thought process to link back to the battle scenes thus making the audience build the connection between the two. The use of CGI effects were amazing in this film to produce the scary enemies that brought the horror aspect whilst maintaining the battlefield setting. A very well constructed film. As an action packed film, Edge Of Tomorrow is worth a watch for an evening of preferred action attitudes. It brings battle sequences combined with what I call the explanation scenes when William Cage wakes up not knowing whats happened. Characters are shown as cowardly but developed when they grasp a true knowledge of whats happening to them whilst staying true to the live, die and repeat aspect. Cinematography being fast paced, eventually skips the times that Cage dies to create a montage of his trial and error efforts which was unique and modern. The audience taking all these attributes into account are welcomed into a new style of filming whilst witnessing battle sequences with a strong narrative to support it. Edge Of Tomorrow is worth a watch.
