Farming and Fishing in West Cornwall. This afternoon I hosted a very honest and open discussion between our farmers and Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Secretary, Elizabeth Truss in Helston. I learnt a lot about the pressures our farming industry is under, particularly dairy and beef farmers. Elizabeth Truss gave some useful responses but was very honest about the challenge facing the Government as it seeks to ensure UK food production has a healthy prosperous future. This evening Julie Girling MEP and I met with fishermen in Penzance to discuss what changes are required to the rules that regulate our fishing industry to reflect modern fishing methods and evidence gathered by fishermen regarding of fish stocks.
