Fatal Traffic Collision We are currently investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred yesterday evening at approximately 9:20 p.m. A CPS member was driving a marked police vehicle northbound along 36 Street S.E. through 8 Avenue S.E., when they witnessed a suspicious 2003 black Lincoln Aviator. Although the investigation is in the early stages, it appears that the officer activated their lights and sirens in an attempt to pull the vehicle over. The driver failed to stop and fled from the officer along 36 Street and then eastbound on Memorial Drive. The officer disengaged near 39 Street S.E. and turned off the vehicle sirens. However, the driver continued to flee, lost control and collided with a tree at Memorial Drive and 44 Street S.E. The driver, a man in his early 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. A male and female passenger were transported to hospital in critical condition. Our Traffic Section is leading the investigation but as is standard procedure in a fatal fail to stop collision, ASIRT has been notified and will review the file.
