Father, Im thankful that hard work and daily dedication are still honorable attributes in our society. To achieve without having it handed to us on a silver platter gives us a sense of accomplishment in the face of our daily failures, but I realize that I must keep my eye on the prize because its almost like others cant stand to see me succeed. When the accolades arent flowing directly to themselves, theyll constantly jockey for position until they get to the front of the line. Im not immune to this temptation Father, I need your help as I do my best to be outwardly focused, as I strive to help others achieve great things in your name, as I seek to humble myself in your sight. Being part of the proud crowd is a trap, as I limit myself to only that which I can achieve in and of my own doing, but by focussing on others as I build them up, Im able to share in their successes behind the scenes as my life becomes exponentially blessed through the daily achievements of those surrounding me in my life. Its a beautiful concept; relentlessly serving others on a daily basis without expecting any of the glory, and then you bless me with an inner peace of knowing my labor is never in vain! Jesus said, Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:28-29)
