Fellow Kenyan in France, Please find here attached a from our Ambassador Madam Salma Ahmed apologizing and seeking your understanding in regards to the cancellation of the prayers for our country and the terror victims of Westgate Mall. xxxxxxxxxxxxx Dear Compatriots, As you are ail aware, the terrorist attack at the Westgate Mall in Nairobi left 67 people dead and over 170 others seriously injured. It was a despicable act of cowardice that has received condemnation from leaders across the world. Indeed, the attack was meant to instill fear among Kenyans and divide the country; but this will not be achieved. Kenyans are strong people with undivided loyalty for their country and their leaders. Hence, we will remain steadfast. Our President H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta has been joined by ail leaders in Kenya in condemning this terrorist act, and has reassured Kenyans that everything is being done to safeguard the lives of Kenyans. The Kenyan Government continues to receive messages of support and comfort from ail governments in the world, including world leaders and individuels. Our Embassy too has received such messages. This attack was not only ruthless, but also senseless. It shocked and angered the world. This attack killed and affected not only Kenyans, but also citizens from other countries. It is a shared grief that touched us ail: Kenyan and non-Kenyans. Given this context and the enormous outpouring of grief and support from many people in the world, including France, the diplomatic community, Governments and NGOs, it was felt that a ceremony which is much wider in scope and inclusion wouid be a more fitting tribute to ail those beloved people who sadiy lost their lives in this attack. This ceremony, which will also include members of the diplomatic corps and officiais from Government, will additionally send a stern warning to those who perpetrated this act that Kenya and Kenyans will not flinch in the fight against terror. As our President, H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta stated in his speech, Kenya will continue to work with Governments and the International community, which have already shown a lot of support and commitment, to defeat the terrorists. In this regard, I apologize for any inconvenience, and seek your understanding and accommodation in this matter. Dear Compatriots, Kenya is going through a lot of challenges at this point in its history, especially from externat sources. It is a trying moment, but we are a resilient people. I wish to appeal to each one of you to bring your energy and passion to bear, in order to build our nation. It is only through unity of purpose and working together as Kenyans, as well as with others, that we shah overcome these challenges and move forward as a nation. Kenya must prevail. I hereby inform you that I will revert to you shortly concerning the venue and date of the function. Let us ail corne together as Kenyans and unite for the sake of our country. GOD BLESS YOU AIL.
