Few weeks ago, I gave this projections on the house of reps crisis. Then many emotional writers called for my head. Now, the film is unfolding.... TAMBUWAL: KALEIDOSCOPE It has always being my sincere belief that there should be fundamental differences between the angled view of PROFESSIONAL POLITICIANS and we mere public commentators on topical national issues. While its granted that we all express our various bias, it behoves on us as national stakeholders not to loose our heads in the cloud of political theatrics... The recent defection of Hon Tambuwal and the ensuing ruckus has however proved me wrong!! I watch with dismay as people are quick to throw away the sense of superior reasoning and foreboding on the altar of taking sides on the various divides. Yes, men with small minds are seen quickly throwing their hats in the ring of needless conflicts supporting one camp or another yet oblivious of where the scuffle is headed... A question begs an answer; why stone the hornets nest??? Why rock the boat on stormy waters?? Of course many who cant fathom the depth of the Tambuwal debacle are quick to exemplify other defections involving Governors and legislators. How wrong they are!! Its a known fact that Tambuwal presently hopes to now preside over a house in which his party the APC is a minority!! While the dictates of the law might not have envisaged such occurences and as such is deemed as LEGALLY CORRECT, this move is grossly POLITICALLY/LOGICALLY FAULTY!! What should have been of greater importance to us is the needless instability such occurence will bring to the house and by extension, the entire nation. Its important to repeat that Tambuwal has every right to defect, but hoping to escape with the RIGHTS OF THE MAJORITY would be a hard sell!! Expectedly, the PDP will do everything allowed on the political turf to change the scenario and as such an unending battle will ensue. Already, as a decoy, Speaker Tambuwal directed a 6 weeks recess with the aim that by December 6, tension would have calmed down. How wrong could he have been!!! Effectively, that may mark the end of the 7th assembly!! In the coming weeks, deft political moves which are expected to heighten the political temperature of Nigeria would be seen as the struggle intensifies. Eventually, someone would certainly get burnt even as legislative fuctions are expected to grind to a halt. By the time the dust settles, we would look back and consider what led to the scuffle in the first instance wondering if it would have made more sense for a man to have followed the path of honour by resigning as Speaker: (a position conferred on him due to his being in the majority) than involve in needless scuffles.... Whichever way the pendulum swings, to anyone who knows the onions of the HARD KNOCK political landscape in Nigeria, in the foreseeable future, Hon Aminu Tambuwal may not enjoy the perks of Speakership for long anymore and the average Nigerian would soon wish the ruckus never happened in the first instance. Time shall tell... 9JA 4 LIFE
