Fidayeen attacks on a police station and Army camp in Jammu on - TopicsExpress

Fidayeen attacks on a police station and Army camp in Jammu on Thursday appear to be the handiwork of terror outfits Al-Badr and Hizbul-Mujahideen (HM), claimed intelligence officials. Strongly denying the role and existence of militant outfit Shohada Brigade, which claimed responsibility for the attack, officials said there was no such terror outfit in J&K and a fictitious name was circulated to portray that home-grown terrorists were behind the attack. Sr intelligence officer said that in the recent past the Al-Badr had been spreading word that ‘Shohada Brigade’ was a local militant group in J&K. However, agencies had earlier informed the government about the foreign terror group’s propaganda, he said. He also confirmed that an intelligence input on Al-Badr and HM activities, based on electronic evidence, was passed to security and intelligence agencies in the first week of September, which had specifically mentioned that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), was pushing Afghan-trained terrorists into Indian territory. “In the last week of August, intelligence agencies monitoring a series of phones had intercepted several calls suggesting the plot to push Afghan jihadi’s into J&K. The transcript of calls mentioned in the report reveals that several LeT and Al-Badr terror cells from Afghanistan are being diverted for India-specific terror strikes as they are better trained for fidayeen attacks,” he said. Sources said the ISI was pushing Al-Badr and HM to carry out terror attacks in J&K and they have been asked to ensure that all their activities must carry local footprints and should not lead to Pakistan. “Intelligence reports suggests that Al-Badr, which is led by foreign terrorists, is under pressure to carry out terror attacks in J&K. Agencies had also raised concerns that HM is getting stronger in J&K and may carry out further attacks,” Sources added. It is learnt there was also an intelligence input on terrorist infiltration in Poonch sector of Jammu region in the last week of August. It had warned of potential terror attacks in Jammu as the region had been peaceful for the past several months.
