Film footage of the great Italian pianist Sergio Fiorentino playing his own transcription of Bachs Jesu, Joy of Mans Desiring after a 1988 master class. This amateur film captures the magic of this amazing pianist, both in terms of the incredible performance and the remarkable choreography of his hands - his seamless phrasing can be seen in the fluidity of his movements (notice how he changes fingers on the same key). Despite playing a less-than-ideal piano (and overall acoustic, punctuated by Italian car horns), Fiorentino delivers a performance of elegance and sacredness, with transparent voicing, a beautifully etched melodic line (consistent even as it moves between hands), and a gorgeous tone. Magic.
