Finally getting around to compiling the shorts and poems into a manuscript. It shant be too long now... (seriously...itll be very soon) Some of the short stories and poems can be found here: ryanratliff.tumblr/ And here is the first poem/introduction (sort of helps to illustrate the concept of the book): THE AMBLING REMNANTS OF A TRANSMISSION FROM AN UNKNOWN SOURCE Millions of light years spanned between, As a vast parting of the Earth and I. I looked to the world behind. And as a frigid current seemed to surge through me, I began to feel the intolerable sense of isolation. I missed my family; the sight of faces other than my own. Certain a longing so great comes of more than absence. It occurred to me; when observed at such formidable distance, Life; that which I’d led, that which would continue in my absence, Lost all definition. A world living, breathing, coursing and dying, It is no more, that I can see, than a single sphere. Only when near others did life gain clarity. Purpose. Meaning cannot be found when merely observing. And I’d become the observer. To think that I should never again participate. Strive. It meant the remainder of my life would be void. Love and hate; the abstract concepts emblazoning life. Far and gaining distance. I had left these in a fool’s endeavor. Value. Slipped my grasp. In the darkness, amidst the swirling masses Id failed. No significant discovery. My words becoming silence. A return to find the blissful waiting with arms open. Disappeared as a dream I could no longer recall. Id succeeded, only, in finding death. To any who find this; regardless of the means and intentions, Ive only to say farewell and may none of you be so foolish. Do not follow me. There is nothing to be found here save the trifling results of obsession... And there is nothing worthy of such a loss in definition.
